Abstract

Upon receiving the Keck Undergraduate Research Scholarship during the summer of 2016, Phylizia Carrillo and Khirsty Randles were afforded the opportunity to work alongside Dr. Wendy McCredie and Jasmine La Rue in literary research. Together, they curated a comprehensive, interactive website that serves as a platform for The Toni Morrison Initiative. This website includes, but is not limited to: a library of Toni Morrison’s publications and recognitions, in-depth assessments of The Bluest Eye, Song of Solomon, Sula, and Beloved, and a section dedicated to the Keck Scholars’ respective critical research papers. Holding true to an initiative’s ability to assess and its audacity to act, The Toni Morrison Initiative seeks to empower readers to apply their literary thoughts into substantial actions, and to promote Toni Morrison’s literature in the process.
