Abstract

Arundo donax specimens were evaluated to assess genetic variability of the species along approximately 25 miles of the Santa Clara River, from its mouth at Harbor Boulevard to the Chambersburg Road crossing. DNA was extracted from each using a modified Qiagen DNeasy spin column protocol, and RAPDs produced using the GE-Healthcare RAPD kit. Four of the six primers produced identical RAPD fingerprints for the 7 samples being studied. Two of the primers yielded variable products, demonstrating some variability within the specimen set.
