Abstract

The classification of different microorganisms is a foundational step in microbiology. The purpose of this experiment was to classify a microorganism on a genus level use a variety of identification techniques. Gram Staining, Spore Staining, Catalase Testing, motility testing, NaCl growth testing, and PCR were all methods included in this experiment. The results of these techniques were the following: Gram positive bacteria, Spore staining had no spores, positive catalase test, and negative motility test. NaCl growth test resulting in 3% and 7% as opposed to no growth seen in 10% NaCl. Genus staphylococcus was the unknown bacteria indicated from the collected results.
