Abstract

The effectiveness of remote access technology, specifically a Scanning Electron Microscope, combined with learning-labs was investigated as tool for engaging and retaining student interest in STEM in a middle school classroom. Student interest in and perceived value of science-related technology increased after the completion of the curriculum.

Summary of research results to be presented

The remote access Scanning Electron Microscope was found to work well when coupled with integrated project-based lessons to increase student learning around technology and the intersection of technology with science.
