Abstract

Web applications have transformed the modern web experience as they are designed for solving real-world problems, providing convenience to better our lives. However, most web developers lack the awareness to integrate accessibility features to accommodate users with disabilities. Currently, many web applications have accessibility barriers making it difficult or impossible for people with disabilities to utilize. Our research focuses on addressing these conformity issues in terms of visual impairment. We present a tool “EnvisioNyx” that automatically detects the WCAG conformance levels in web applications. Upon such conformance failures, EnvisioNyx will identify the root cause and automatically attempt a repair. We will explore the tool’s architecture and implementation techniques such as DOM Content Extraction, Image Processing, Color Transformation, and Computer Vision. To substantiate the quality of the detection and repair, we conducted a statistical analysis by auditing existing real-world web applications consist of different genres with human subjects of various backgrounds. The results of our study performed both empirically and objectively suggested that the EnvisioNyx tool is indeed effective in our experimental trials.
