Abstract

In recent years we have had an obscene amount of fires in California, but the unthinkable has occurred. In South America, the Amazon rainforest has caught on fire. An area so dense and full of life that it is referred to as the lungs of our world, were engulfed in flames. The Amazon rainforest receives a constant amount of rain to keep all of its foliage lush, green, and damp. But somehow it has caught fire despite all of this. The subject of my work is the burning of the Amazon rainforest. The purpose of my piece of work is to bring attention to why our world is catching fire in the strangest places. My piece of work does not have a specific audience. I believe that anyone can understand the importance of this piece. Whether the person viewing this piece is young, old, or any age in between. As long as they can comprehend that it is not normal for the Amazon rainforest to catch fire, and we need to find a way to prevent it from ever happening again. My Personal perspective on this issue is one of confusion. Confusion as to why there is not more being done about the Amazon rainforest, and the lack of horror at the extreme deforestation, due to somewhere that used to be so teeming with life catching fire. The meaning of this work is to bring more attention to the fires and hopefully not forget the importance of an area that produces twenty percent of the world’s oxygen.
