Abstract

The techniques for western and eastern drawing are totally different. The history of western drawing is from sketch to abstract, while in the east like Japan and China, they draw in a way which is called cavalier perspective. Usually, art represents the way people observing the world. This project aims to find a possible way to explain why people in the east and west can develop two different drawing systems with totally different techniques. Also, this project focuses on the way that these two different culture's historical development with their method of observing the world. It is an interesting phenomenon that in art history, western drawing prefers to draw specific objects. For example, Mona Lisa was drawn to describe the beauty of a true women's body. However, Along the River During the Qingming Festival is totally different style because it is hard to find the proof that this work follows the prospective rule in western drawing standard. This circumstance can stand for the two different culture and art is one of the ways to express the main idea, so it is possible that these two different techniques could recognize the huge gap between religion society and agriculture society.
