Abstract

Although sintering is a well studied method of producing metal or ceramic blanks, this study was conducted to find optimal sintering parameters on copper flake. Copper flake was used rather than traditional copper power, as it more closely exhibits characteristics of high stress deformation milling processes that are used by our research group. In terms of sintering, it is impossible to achieve 100% theoretical density without some amount of mechanical pressure. More pressure will always exhibit a higher density, but certain methods that differ from traditional pressure loading procedures yield a more dense sample. Direct applied pressure, cyclic pre-compacting, applying loading pressure at soak, and atmospheric pre-compacting all create different density and hardness characteristics.
